Hello there everyone and welcome to your friendly blogger Atif’s energetic blog…. Hmm feels quite.. yes thats true I’m in a mood to blog now and today :!: I am going to reveal the secrets of folders in Windows XP…. applause !!

Hmmm secret folders, seems interesting…. so keep reading !!

Did you ever try to make folder with the name CON, PRN, NUL, COM or LPT followed by a number (like COM1 COM2 or LPT1 LPT1) or a folder with no name.. Hmmm no if not then try it now first and see what happens…

So you aren’t able to create them… hmm okay okay I’ll teach you to make them..

There are 2 ways of creating

  • This is actually a spoof and not the original trick to make but its simpler to execute.

All you gotta do is create a new folder write its name like CON and then hold dowthe Alt key and press 0160 or 255 (Alt + 0160) or (Alt + 255) .. what here does is it adds an invisible ASCII character in the end that means you are not writing the folder name CON exactly but you are writing CON(Alt+255) … Got the trick

  • This method is a bit harder but works wonders.. well i cant explain it more easily hope you can understand with the screenshot
  • Open MS-Dos / Command Prompt
  • Write this to create a it in D drive–> md\\.\D:\con
  • To remove it also you need to use the RD command in similar way –> rd\\.\D:\con

Okay here are the shots.. have a look
